Lizzie is a lifelong musician, pianist, and teacher. Her path to the professional music world is the result of decades of searching, discovery, and music-making. Her performance experience includes extensive solo and chamber playing, as well as accompanying. She has served as the collaborative pianist for school choirs, community choirs, and church services. As a student at the University of Colorado Boulder, she received several performance scholarships, as well as the opportunity to perform in concerts featuring music by women and underrepresented composers, new music concerts, and concerts showcasing music by Florence Price, Gabriel Fauré, and Alexina Louie. During her time at CU Boulder, Lizzie also served as president of the CU Collegiate Chapter of MTNA, worked as an instructor for the Youth Piano Program at CU Boulder, and served as administrative coordinator for the program.

Lizzie comes from a family of musicians and has been making music her whole life. Since starting piano at the age of five, she has been privileged to be taught by a series of wonderful and inspirational teachers, starting with her own parents. Her teaching philosophy has been shaped by her experiences with each of her former teachers. She took her earliest music lessons from her mother, a piano teacher, and her father, who taught her flute. She credits her mother with providing the basis for her own teaching philosophy, and her father with instilling in her an appreciation for the roles of discipline and hard work in high-level music performance. As a young adult, Lizzie studied with Dr. Kate Altizer, whose supportive and knowledgeable teaching inspired her to pursue a teaching career of her own. As a student of Dr. Jennifer Hayghe, she learned to connect technical skills to musicianship. Dr. Hayghe’s teaching instilled in her a belief that the value of performance is in sharing one’s unique musical voice and connecting with others through music.

Lizzie’s goal as a teacher is to share a love of discovery and self-expression through music-making. She believes that studying and making music should be a creative and collaborative experience, and she prioritizes her students’ individual musical goals, while offering them the technique and performance skills they need to become confident, well-rounded musicians.
